The Treatment Process for Animals
How is a Reiki treatment conducted
Reiki can be administered very simply, without requirement for special equipment and in various settings: homes, veterinary clinics, stables, pastures, etc.
Treatment of animals can begin from a distance and may be preferable with animals that are highly stressed or fearful. Once the animal begins to relax, they may move or reorient themselves closer to the practitioner or allow direct contact with the practitioner.
When using direct contact, the Reiki practitioner will place their hands in a series of positions on/over the body and specific areas that require treatment.
Response during a Reiki treatment
In treating humans with Reiki, clients have related varying sensations including heat, cold, prickling and others though these do not create any discomfort. It is presumed that animals may feel any of those sensations as well.
Animals will often become calm and relaxed, resting with eyes closed or fall asleep during treatments.
Treatment Duration and Frequency
Treatments usually last between 30 and 90 minutes, however, the practitioner is guided by the animal. On some occasions, shorter periods of time may be preferred. In general, the animal will give a clear indication of what is tolerable.
Dependent on the clinical picture, issue being treated, the animal and client, the frequency and number of consequent treatments must be discussed beforehand. With Reiki there is no pre-defined requirement for specific duration or frequency.
