The Use of Reiki with Animals
Reiki therapy for animals is a simple, non-invasive treatment approach and can be used for many physical, emotional and behavioural problems.
The Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) position statement on alternative and complementary veterinary medicine acknowledges bionenergetic therapy in consideration of CAM for treating animals and states that it is necessary to critically evaluate the risk and benefits in the use of CAM to ensure treatment is in the best interest of an animal. 1
In treating animals with Reiki, this can readily be done in conjunction with any conventional veterinary care provided by a client’s primary veterinary practitioner. In fact, the practitioner can more effectively direct the Reiki with knowledge of the medical background on the animal.
It is strongly recommended that clients do not discontinue any medications prescribed by their primary veterinary practitioner or other practitioner, unless first discussing with them personally.
